According to my professor in Vidprod class, the City Lights by Charlie Chaplin was a great movie. Although it was made when technology was not as advanced, she said that the movie was able to portray its story very well. She said that it is very entertaining too.
Knowing that it’s a black and white movie, I assumed that I will be bored watching the film. When I watched it, I was greatly proven wrong. The movie was really funny and entertaining. You will always watch out on what’s coming next. I was able to understand the movie very well.
I find the story very deep. Sure the movie is labeled as comedy but if you really analyze the story, you will pity a peerless guy who gave up everything he had for the girl she loved and didn’t even care if the girl will love her back. I find Chaplin very selfless and he is always ready to help anyone.
The film is really great. From my point of view, the director used comedy as his asset for his film for him to attract audience who will watch the film and slowly, will absorb what he really wants to show, and that for me is what makes the film and its creators very good in story telling.
I believe that this movie will last more than a life time. It has been for many generations and still being looked up and being watched and many still find in very entertaining.
